Purdue University GPA & CGPA Calculator
Calculate your Purdue semester GPA and cumulative CGPA using the official 4.0 grading scale with plus and minus letter grades. Includes A+, A, A-, B+, C-, D-, E, F, IF, Pass/Not-Pass marks, course repetition notes, and academic standing guidance.
Purdue uses a 4.0 GPA scale. Enter your courses, credit hours, and letter grades. A+ and A both count as 4.00. Non-GPA marks like P, N, I, W, WF, WU, and AU should not be included in GPA hours.
Enter each completed semester GPA and GPA credit hours. Purdue cumulative GPA is the weighted average of all GPA hours. Undergraduate students generally need a 2.00 cumulative GPA for a baccalaureate degree, while graduate good standing commonly uses a 3.00 GPA threshold.
How to Use the Purdue GPA & CGPA Calculator
This Purdue GPA calculator uses the university's 4.0 grading scale with plus and minus grades. You can calculate a single semester GPA or combine multiple semesters to estimate your cumulative GPA.
Purdue University Official 4.0 Grading Scale
Purdue University uses a 4.0 scale for GPA calculation. A+ does not add extra points at Purdue. Both A+ and A carry the maximum value of 4.00 grade points. E, F, and IF carry 0.00 grade points.
| Letter Grade | Grade Points | Performance Description | GPA Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.00 | Highest passing grade | Counts in GPA |
| A- | 3.70 | Superior | Counts in GPA |
| B+ | 3.30 | Above average | Counts in GPA |
| B | 3.00 | Above average | Counts in GPA |
| B- | 2.70 | Above average | Counts in GPA |
| C+ | 2.30 | Average | Counts in GPA |
| C | 2.00 | Average | Counts in GPA |
| C- | 1.70 | Average | Counts in GPA |
| D+ | 1.30 | Below average | Counts in GPA |
| D | 1.00 | Below average | Counts in GPA |
| D- | 0.70 | Lowest passing grade | Counts in GPA |
| E / F / IF | 0.00 | Failure or conditional failure | Counts as 0.00 |
Important Purdue GPA Note: A+ and A both equal 4.00. Purdue does not award extra GPA weight for A+. If you retake a course, Purdue uses the most recent grade in the official cumulative GPA calculation, replacing the previous attempt.
Semester GPA Formula
GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Total GPA Credit Hours
Example: ENGL 106 A (4.00) × 3cr + MA 161 B+ (3.30) × 4cr = (12.00 + 13.20) ÷ 7 = GPA 3.600
CGPA Formula
CGPA = Σ (Semester GPA × Semester GPA Hours) ÷ Total GPA Hours
Pass/Not-Pass and Special Purdue Marks
Purdue uses several academic marks that do not affect semester GPA or cumulative GPA. P means Pass under the Pass/Not-Pass option and generally reflects C- or higher work. N means Not Pass. I is an Incomplete mark. W, WF, WU are withdrawal marks. AU means Audit. These marks should not be entered as GPA-grade rows in this calculator.
"Use only credit-bearing letter grades when calculating Purdue GPA. For P, N, I, W, WF, WU, and AU, keep the course on your transcript record but exclude it from GPA points and GPA hours."
Purdue GPA Requirements & Academic Standing
Purdue academic standing depends on student level and program rules. For undergraduate degree completion, students generally need a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. Graduate students usually need a 3.00 GPA to remain in good academic standing.
| GPA Range | Standing | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 3.70 - 4.00 | Excellent | Strong academic performance on the Purdue 4.0 scale |
| 3.30 - 3.69 | Very Good | Above average performance with strong grade points |
| 3.00 - 3.29 | Graduate Good Standing | Common minimum benchmark for graduate-level standing |
| 2.00 - 2.99 | Undergraduate Satisfactory | Meets the common undergraduate minimum degree threshold |
| Below 2.00 | Academic Risk | Below undergraduate graduation minimum, improvement needed |
Course repetition note: If a Purdue course is repeated, the most recent grade is used in the official cumulative GPA calculation. For best accuracy, use the latest attempt when estimating your Purdue CGPA.
