University of Minnesota GPA & CGPA Calculator
Calculate your University of Minnesota GPA and CGPA using the UMN plus/minus A-F grading scale, credit hours, grade points, S/N grading rules, course retakes, and academic standing guidance.
UMN uses a plus/minus A-F grading scale. Enter each course, select the letter grade, and add credits. UMN does not award GPA points for A+. S, N, I, W, and V should not be included as GPA-grade rows.
Enter each completed semester GPA and semester credits. UMN cumulative GPA is the weighted average of GPA points and credits. For repeated courses, both attempts stay on the transcript, but only the latest grade counts in cumulative GPA.

UMN GPA Formula
GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Total GPA Credits
S/N, Incomplete, Withdrawal, and Audit Symbols
S means Satisfactory and is awarded for S/N grading when performance is equivalent to C- or better. N means No Credit and gives no earned credit. I means Incomplete and is a temporary symbol used for extraordinary documented circumstances. W means Withdrawal. V means Visitor or Audit. These symbols do not positively or negatively affect cumulative GPA.
"For accurate UMN GPA calculation, only enter A-F letter grades with GPA points. S, N, I, W, and V should be excluded from GPA hours."
Important UMN GPA Policies
Undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota cannot take more than 25% of total credits on the S/N basis. Major-specific courses usually require A-F grading unless the academic department states otherwise.
If you repeat a course, both attempts remain visible on your transcript, but only the latest grade is used in cumulative GPA calculation, even if the second grade is lower.
Final grades are typically submitted and visible in the MyU Portal Academics tab within 4 business days after the term ends.
