Arizona State University GPA & CGPA Calculator
Calculate your semester GPA and cumulative CGPA using Arizona State University's official 4.0 grading scale with A+ support. Includes plus/minus grading, ASU's unique E (fail) grade, and academic standing thresholds. Free, instant, no sign-up.
ASU uses a 4.0 scale with plus/minus grading. A+ earns 4.33 points per course but cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00. Non-standard grades (I, P, W, X, Y, Z) do not count toward GPA — enter only letter-graded courses.
Enter each completed semester's GPA and total letter-graded credit hours. ASU computes GPA on both a semester and cumulative basis. Cumulative GPA is always capped at 4.00 regardless of A+ grades earned.
How to Use the ASU GPA & CGPA Calculator
This calculator uses Arizona State University's official 4.0 grading scale including plus/minus grades and the unique A+ = 4.33 value. Select the correct tab, enter your course data, and get your GPA or CGPA instantly.
Arizona State University Official Grading Scale
Arizona State University uses a standard 4.0 scale with full plus/minus grading for most courses. ASU uniquely awards A+ = 4.33 grade points per course and uses E as the failing grade instead of F. While A+ affects individual course grade points, your cumulative GPA is strictly capped at a maximum of 4.00 per ASU registrar policy.
| Letter Grade | Grade Points | Percentage Range | Standing |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.33 | 98% – 100% | Exceptional |
| A | 4.00 | 90% – 97% | Excellent |
| A- | 3.67 | 90% – 91% | Excellent |
| B+ | 3.33 | 87% – 89% | Good |
| B | 3.00 | 80% – 86% | Good |
| B- | 2.67 | 80% – 81% | Good |
| C+ | 2.33 | 77% – 79% | Average |
| C | 2.00 | 70% – 76% | Average |
| D | 1.00 | 60% – 69% | Poor — No Graduate Credit |
| E (Fail) | 0.00 | Below 60% | Failing |
A+ GPA Cap: At ASU, an A+ earns 4.33 grade points for that individual course calculation, but your cumulative GPA is always capped at a maximum of 4.00. This means even if your raw weighted average exceeds 4.00 due to A+ grades, your official cumulative GPA will display as 4.00.
Semester GPA Formula
GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Total Letter-Graded Credit Hours (capped at 4.00)
Example: Biology A+ (4.33) × 3cr + English B+ (3.33) × 3cr = (12.99 + 9.99) ÷ 6 = 3.83 → displayed as GPA 3.83
CGPA Formula
CGPA = Σ (Semester GPA × Semester Letter-Graded Credits) ÷ Total Credits All Semesters (capped at 4.00)
Non-Standard Grades — Not Counted in GPA
The following ASU grade designations do not earn grade points and are excluded from all GPA calculations: I (Incomplete), P (Pass), W (Withdrawal), X (Audit), Y (Satisfactory), and Z (Course in Progress). Courses with a W appear on the transcript but carry no grade points and do not impact GPA.
"ASU uses E as the failing grade — not F. Additionally, ASU does not offer a C- grade or B- equivalent for D — students move directly from C to D (1.00) with no D+ or D- variants. The D grade also carries no graduate credit at ASU."
ASU GPA Requirements & Academic Standing
Arizona State University monitors both semester and cumulative GPA to determine academic standing. Understanding your GPA thresholds helps you stay in good standing, maintain scholarships, and qualify for Dean's List recognition.
| CGPA Range | Standing | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 3.50 – 4.00 | Dean's List Eligible | Semester GPA 3.50+ with 12+ graded hours — highest recognition |
| 3.00 – 3.49 | Good Standing (Graduate) | Meets graduate minimum requirement of 3.0 CGPA |
| 2.00 – 2.99 | Good Standing (Undergrad) | Meets undergraduate minimum of 2.0 — satisfactory progress |
| Below 2.00 (UG) | Academic Probation | Undergraduate below 2.0 — placed on academic probation |
| Below 3.00 (Grad) | Graduate Probation | Graduate below 3.0 — risk of dismissal from program |
ASU Dean's List: To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, undergraduate students must earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher while completing a minimum of 12 graded credit hours in that semester. The Dean's List is awarded per semester, not cumulatively.
Academic Probation at ASU: Undergraduate students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 are placed on academic probation. Students have one semester to raise their GPA above the minimum threshold. Continued failure to meet the 2.0 minimum may result in academic suspension. Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 CGPA.
