Special Grade Designations: S (Satisfactory) = C or better in a Pass/Fail course — does NOT count toward GPA. U (Unsatisfactory) = D or F in a Pass/Fail course — counts as an F in the GPA. I (Incomplete) = temporary, must be resolved. Q (Q-Drop) = course dropped without penalty. W (Withdrawal) = full semester withdrawal. NG (No Grade) = admin removal requiring dean approval.

Grading Variances by School
Certain Texas A&M professional programs use different grading systems. The School of Law uses a detailed plus/minus system from A+ (4.01) down to D- (0.67). The College of Dentistry includes B+ (3.5) and C+ (2.5) intervals. The Graduate School requires a minimum 3.0 institutional CGPA — degree credit is only awarded for A, B, or C grades.

A Q-Drop (Q grade) allows Texas A&M students to drop a course without academic penalty after the standard add/drop period has ended. The Q appears on the transcript but does NOT affect the GPA. Texas A&M limits the number of Q-Drops a student may use during their undergraduate career — typically no more than 4 Q-Drops total.
