How to Use the University of Florida GPA & CGPA Calculator

This calculator uses UF's official 4.0 plus/minus grading scale as defined by the University of Florida Office of the University Registrar. Select the correct tab, enter your course data, and instantly see your GPA, CGPA, and academic standing — including President's Honor Roll eligibility.

1
Choose Semester GPA or CGPA Tab
Use the Semester GPA tab for a single term — enter course names, letter grades (A through E, including plus/minus), and credit hours. Use the CGPA tab to combine all completed semesters into your cumulative GPA. Only enter letter-graded courses; S/U, I, W, H, and NG courses do not count toward GPA.
2
Enter Your UF Courses and Grades
Type each course name (e.g., MAC 2311, ENC 1101), select your UF letter grade from the dropdown — A=4.00 down to E=0.00, including WF=0.00 — and enter the credit hours. Most UF courses carry 3 credit hours. Click "+ Add Course" to add more rows.
3
Get Instant GPA, CGPA and Academic Standing
Your GPA or CGPA appears immediately. The calculator shows whether you qualify for the President's Honor Roll (4.0 GPA with 15+ graded credits), Good Standing, Grade Point Deficit status, or Academic Probation — along with a personalized improvement tip.
4

Use the per-course GPA bar chart to spot your weakest grades. Remember that UF requires a C or higher (not C-) to satisfy General Education and state writing requirements. Use this to prioritize which courses need the most attention next term.
UF Grading System

University of Florida Official 4.0 Grading Scale

The University of Florida uses a 4.0 plus/minus GPA scale with one key difference from most US universities: UF uses E as the failing grade instead of F. UF's GPA is calculated by dividing total accumulated grade points by total semester hours attempted. WF (Withdrew Failing) also carries 0.00 grade points and is punitive.

Letter GradeGrade PointsMeaningStanding
A4.00ExcellentPresident's Honor Roll eligible
A-3.67ExcellentGood Standing
B+3.33GoodGood Standing
B3.00GoodGood Standing
B-2.67GoodGood Standing
C+2.33SatisfactoryGood Standing
C2.00SatisfactoryMinimum for Gen Ed credit
C-1.67Below AverageDoes NOT satisfy Gen Ed requirements
D+1.33PoorGrade Point Deficit risk
D1.00PoorGrade Point Deficit risk
D-0.67Minimum PassGrade Point Deficit risk
E (Failure)0.00Failing — UF uses E, not FAcademic Probation risk
WF (Withdrew Failing)0.00Withdrew while failingPunitive — counts in GPA

Critical UF Rule — C- Does NOT Count for Gen Ed: At UF, students must earn a flat C (2.00) or higher to satisfy General Education requirements, state writing requirements, or math criteria. A C- (1.67) does NOT yield this credit, even though it is a passing grade. This is a frequent source of confusion for UF students.

Incomplete Grade Warning (I*): An I* (Incomplete with asterisk) is a critical UF-specific designation. If a student does not resolve an Incomplete grade within 150 days, it automatically converts to a punitive failing grade — permanently affecting the GPA. An I without an asterisk follows standard incomplete procedures.

UF GPA Formula

GPA = Total Accumulated Grade Points ÷ Total Semester Hours Attempted

Example: MAC 2311 A (4.00) × 4cr + ENC 1101 B+ (3.33) × 3cr + CHM 2045 C (2.00) × 3cr = (16 + 9.99 + 6) ÷ 10 = GPA 3.20

CGPA Formula

CGPA = Σ (Semester GPA × Semester Letter-Graded Credits) ÷ Total Credits All Semesters

Non-Punitive Grade Symbols (Excluded from GPA)

The following UF grade symbols carry zero grade points and are excluded from GPA calculations: S (Satisfactory — C or better in a Pass/Fail course), U (Unsatisfactory — Pass/Fail), W (Official Withdrawal within deadline), H (Deferred — sequential or flexible programs), N*/NG (No Grade Reported — administrative placeholder). Note: U and WF are punitive and DO count toward GPA as failing grades.

"The University of Florida's grading policy is administered by the Office of the University Registrar. For grade disputes, corrections, or Incomplete resolutions, students should contact their instructor and the UF Registrar directly via the official UF portal at ufl.edu."

Academic Standing & Honors

UF GPA Requirements, Academic Standing & President's Honor Roll

The University of Florida tracks academic standing on a cumulative basis. Understanding where your CGPA stands helps you stay in good academic standing, avoid grade point deficits, and work toward the prestigious President's Honor Roll.

GPA / CGPAStanding / RecognitionWhat It Means
4.00 (semester, 15+ credits)President's Honor RollPerfect A semester — A- disqualifies; minimum 15 graded credit hours required
3.50 – 3.99Dean's List EligibleExcellent academic performance — strong scholarship consideration
2.00 – 3.49Good StandingMeets UF minimum — no immediate academic concerns
Below 2.00 (cumulative)Grade Point DeficitMust earn grades above C to restore standing — academic warning issued
Critically below 2.00Academic ProbationRisk of suspension — immediate academic advisor consultation required

President's Honor Roll — Strict Criteria: UF's President's Honor Roll requires a perfect 4.00 GPA (all A grades — no A-) in a single semester with at least 15 graded credit hours. Even a single A- disqualifies a student. This is among the most stringent honor roll standards of any major US public university.

Grade Point Deficit Rule: A UF CGPA below 2.0 creates a "grade point deficit." To clear the deficit, students must earn grades higher than a C — earning exactly C grades will maintain the deficit without resolving it. Students in deficit status are urged to contact the Dean of Students Office immediately.

FAQ

University of Florida GPA & CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions

UF uses a standard 4.0 plus/minus GPA scale. The full scale is: A=4.00, A-=3.67, B+=3.33, B=3.00, B-=2.67, C+=2.33, C=2.00, C-=1.67, D+=1.33, D=1.00, D-=0.67, E=0.00 (failure), WF=0.00 (withdrew failing). UF uses E as the failing grade instead of F — one of only a few major US universities to do so.
UF uses E (not F) as the failing grade, following a grading convention that predates the widespread adoption of F across US universities. Harvard also uses E for failing. At UF, E = 0.00 grade points and is treated identically to an F in GPA calculations. The WF (Withdrew Failing) grade also carries 0.00 points and is punitive.
No. A C- (1.67) does NOT satisfy UF's General Education requirements, state writing requirements, or math criteria. Students must earn a flat C (2.00) or higher. This is a critical and frequently misunderstood rule at UF — a student who earns a C- in ENC 1101 must retake the course to satisfy the writing requirement.
UF's President's Honor Roll requires a perfect 4.00 GPA (all A grades — no A-) in a single semester while completing at least 15 graded credit hours. A single A- (3.67) disqualifies a student. This is one of the most stringent honor roll standards of any major US public university.
A UF cumulative GPA below 2.0 creates a "grade point deficit." To clear a grade point deficit, students must earn grades higher than a C — earning exactly C grades will not resolve the deficit, it will only maintain it. Students with a grade point deficit are at risk of academic probation and should consult their academic advisor immediately.
WF stands for Withdrew Failing — assigned when a student withdraws from a course after the deadline while academically failing. Unlike a regular W (Withdrew — which is non-punitive), a WF carries 0.00 grade points and IS counted in the GPA calculation. It is treated identically to an E in GPA terms and appears permanently on the transcript.
An I* (Incomplete with asterisk) at UF is time-sensitive. If a student does not complete the outstanding coursework and have the grade changed within 150 days, the I* automatically converts to a punitive failing grade — permanently damaging the GPA. Students with an I* must proactively work with their instructor to resolve it before the 150-day deadline.
