FCCU Grading System

FC College Official 4.0 Grading Scale

Forman Christian College University (FCCU) uses a 4.00-point GPA scale for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. A student's GPA and CGPA are calculated based on quality points assigned to each letter grade. Plus (+) and minus (-) variations are factored in at fractional values.

Letter GradeGrade PointsDescription
A4.00Superior Work
A-3.70Superior Work
B+3.30Good Work
B3.00Good Work
B-2.70Good Work
C+2.30Satisfactory Work
C2.00Satisfactory Work
C-1.70Satisfactory Work
D+1.30Poor Work
D1.00Poor Work
NS0.00No Show — Unauthorized Withdrawal
F0.00Unacceptable Work — Fail

NS Grade — No Show: The NS (No Show) grade is assigned when a student withdraws from a course without authorization or simply stops attending without formally dropping the course. An NS carries 0.00 grade points — identical to an F — and counts against your GPA. Always formally withdraw from a course through the Registrar's Office to avoid an NS grade on your transcript.

Semester GPA Formula

SGPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Total Semester Credit Hours

Example: Course 1 (3 Credits) = A- (3.70) + Course 2 (3 Credits) = B+ (3.30)
Sum = (3×3.70) + (3×3.30) = 11.10 + 9.90 = 21.00  →  SGPA = 21.00 ÷ 6 = 3.50

CGPA Formula

CGPA = Σ (SGPA × Semester Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours of All Semesters

FCCU CGPA to Percentage Formula

FCCU follows the standard HEC percentage conversion formula:

Percentage = CGPA × 25

Example: CGPA 3.50 → 3.50 × 25 = 87.5%

"FCCU uses the standard HEC formula (CGPA × 25) for percentage conversion. Use this value for job applications, government service forms, and graduate school admissions — it applies consistently across HEC-recognized Pakistani universities."

Academic Standing

FCCU CGPA Requirements & Degree Progression Rules

FCCU applies a tiered minimum CGPA requirement that increases as students progress through their degree. This ensures continuous improvement and prepares students for the higher academic demands of later years.

Minimum CGPA for Good Academic Standing

Year LevelCredits CompletedMin CGPA RequiredWhat It Means
Freshman1 – 30 credits1.50Introductory threshold — build your foundation
Sophomore31 – 60 credits1.75Rising requirement — consistent effort needed
Junior61 – 90 credits2.00Standard minimum — required for most degrees

Degree Progression & Grade Rules

SituationRule
Passing Grade for Degree CreditA grade of C or higher is required for a course to count toward degree requirements
D GradeA course with a D can only satisfy degree requirements if a grade of B or higher is earned in another full course
Dean's Honour RollSemester GPA of 3.70 or above qualifies for the Dean's Honour Roll
NS / F GradeBoth NS and F carry 0.00 grade points and negatively impact GPA — treated identically in calculations

C Grade is the minimum for degree completion: At FCCU, a course in which you earn a D does not automatically count toward your degree requirements — even though you technically passed. You must earn a C or higher for a course to fulfil your programme requirements. Plan your course load carefully to avoid needing extra semesters.

D Grade workaround: If you earn a D in a course, that course can still satisfy a degree requirement — but only if you earn a B or higher in a different full course. This rule gives students a path forward without immediately retaking the low-grade course, but it requires strong performance elsewhere in your programme.

FAQ

FC College GPA & CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions

FCCU uses a 4.00-point GPA scale for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The main letter grades and their quality points are: A = 4.00, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, F = 0.00, and NS = 0.00. Plus and minus variations are also included: A- = 3.70, B+ = 3.30, B- = 2.70, C+ = 2.30, C- = 1.70, D+ = 1.30. GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing these values, and dividing by the total credit hours for the semester.
FCCU's minimum CGPA requirement scales up with your completed credit hours: Freshmen (1–30 credits) need a minimum CGPA of 1.50; Sophomores (31–60 credits) need 1.75; and Juniors (61–90 credits) need 2.00. This tiered system means the academic expectations increase as you progress through your degree. Falling below the required minimum for your year level puts your good academic standing at risk.
Not directly. At FCCU, a grade of C or higher is required for a course to count toward fulfilling degree requirements. A D grade (1.00 grade points) is a passing grade in terms of GPA calculation, but it does not satisfy degree requirements on its own. However, there is a workaround: a course in which you earned a D can fulfill a degree requirement if you earn a grade of B or higher in another full course. This means you do not necessarily have to retake a D course, but you must compensate with stronger performance elsewhere.
NS stands for "No Show" — it is assigned when a student withdraws from a course without authorization or stops attending without formally dropping the course through the Registrar's Office. An NS grade carries 0.00 quality points, identical to an F, and is counted in your GPA calculation. Always formally drop a course through official channels if you cannot continue — an NS on your transcript has the same academic and GPA impact as failing the course outright.
FCCU follows the standard HEC percentage conversion formula: Percentage = CGPA × 25. For example, a CGPA of 3.50 gives 3.50 × 25 = 87.5%. This formula is consistent with most HEC-recognised Pakistani universities and should be used for job applications, government service forms, and graduate school admissions.
The Dean's Honour Roll at FCCU requires a semester GPA of 3.70 or above (equivalent to an A- average across all courses). This is one of the highest academic recognitions available to FCCU students and typically opens doors to merit scholarships, academic awards, and strong graduate school recommendations from faculty.
Plus and minus grades at FCCU translate to fractional quality point values: A- = 3.70 (not 4.00), B+ = 3.30 (not 3.00), B- = 2.70, C+ = 2.30, C- = 1.70, and D+ = 1.30. These fractional values can meaningfully affect your GPA. For example, earning an A- instead of an A across three 3-credit courses reduces your semester GPA from 4.00 to 3.70 — a difference that can shift you from one standing tier to another.
