UOS Grading System
University of Sargodha Official 4.0 Grading Scale
The University of Sargodha follows an absolute grading system based on fixed percentage ranges. Your letter grade is determined entirely by your own marks — not the performance of your class. This is different from relative grading systems used at universities like NUST or LUMS.
To pass any course, you must score a minimum of 50% marks, which corresponds to a Grade C (2.00 grade points). Fractional marks are rounded up — for example, 49.1% is counted as 50% and receives a Grade C.

Important — Rounding Rule: At UOS, fractional marks are always rounded up. A score of 49.1% is treated as 50% and earns a Grade C. This means students very close to a grade boundary benefit from this rule — but only by one mark, not by fractions.
CGPA = Σ (Semester GPA × Semester Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours of All Semesters
"UOS uses an absolute grading system — your grade depends only on your own marks, not on how your classmates perform. Scoring 80% always earns you an A, regardless of class averages."

University of Sargodha GPA & CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions
The University of Sargodha uses an absolute 4.00-point grading scale based on fixed percentage ranges. This means your letter grade is determined entirely by your own marks — not by class averages or relative performance. Scoring 80% or above always gives you an A (4.00), regardless of how other students performed.
The University of Sargodha requires a minimum CGPA of 2.50 for both undergraduate (BS, BA, BSc) and graduate (MA, MSc) degree programs. Students who fall below this threshold risk probation or being dropped from the program roll. This is higher than many other Pakistani universities, which require only a 2.00 CGPA.
The minimum passing grade at UOS is Grade C, which requires a score of at least 50% in the course. Grades D (45–49%) and E (40–44%) are considered below pass and do not meet the minimum course requirement. Students scoring below 40% receive an F and must retake the course. Importantly, UOS rounds up fractional marks — so a score of 49.1% is treated as 50% and passes as Grade C.
UOS uses absolute grading. Your letter grade is assigned based on your own percentage score against fixed thresholds — for example, 80% and above always earns an A (4.00). This is different from relative grading systems used at institutions like NUST, where your grade depends on how your entire class performed. At UOS, there is no bell curve or class average adjustment.
GPA at UOS is calculated using the weighted average formula: multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, sum all results, and divide by total semester credit hours. For example, if you score A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and B+ (3.3) in a 4-credit course: (4.0×3) + (3.3×4) = 12 + 13.2 = 25.2 ÷ 7 = 3.60 GPA.
Yes — UOS has two sub-pass grades. Grade D (45–49%, 1.00 grade points) and Grade E (40–44%, 0.50 grade points) both fall below the minimum passing grade of C. A student receiving D or E in a course has not met the passing requirement and must retake the course to pass. These grades still contribute to GPA calculations, however, which can significantly lower your semester and cumulative GPA.
Since the graduation requirement at UOS is a minimum CGPA of 2.50, falling below this threshold means you do not meet the conditions for degree completion. Depending on how far below 2.50 your CGPA falls, you may face academic probation or dismissal from the program. It is critical to speak with your department advisor as soon as possible if you are approaching or below this threshold.
